Under the Charger's Hood
There are four powerful engine options for the 2017 Dodge Charger. The first, standard on the SE and SXT trims, is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. It's capable of 292 horsepower at 6,350 rpm and 260 pound-feet of torque at 4,800 rpm. This option is the more practical for fuel efficiency, estimated at 19 city/30 highway with rear-wheel drive or 18 city/27 highway with all-wheel drive. Next up is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8, which is standard in R/T and Daytona trim levels. It's good for a competitive 370 horsepower at 5,250 rpm and 395 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm. The next engine is a 6.4-liter SRT HEMI V8 that comes on the R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, and SRT 392. It can get you 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there's the 6.2-liter supercharged SRT Hellcat V8 engine, only available for the SRT Hellcat. This engine supplies the SRT Hellcat with 707 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 650 pound-feet of torque at 4,800 rpm. Only the V6 engines are compatible with AWD; all Chargers come standard with rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed transmission.
Design of Dodge Charger
There are eight available trim levels for the 2017 Dodge Charger: SE, SXT, R/T, Daytona, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat. Each comes with a four-door, five-passenger configuration. The interior of the Charger is comfortable and functional, and as an added bonus, it's pleasing to the eye. The exterior is unapologetically bold, and clearly shows the prowess and toughness of the Charger. It comes across as modern and mean. There are some key throwback features in the aesthetics of the Charger, including the roofline and overall shape that date back to 1968. Standard equipment for the Charger SE is a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen, a leather-wrapped tilting and telescoping steering wheel, keyless entry and ignition, two-zone climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, and 17-inch alloy wheels. An upgrade to just the SXT adds in larger wheels, heated mirrors, LED foglights, dual-zone automatic climate control, upgraded upholstery, an improved six-speaker sound system, an 8.4-inch Uconnect with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an auto-dimming mirror. Ample packages give you plenty of opportunities to get all the features you want on just about every trim. For a true audiophile, there is an available 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system available for the SRT 392 and Hellcat.
